VCU Finishes 3rd at 'Bad Boys'

The VCU Rams started their season expecting to be in Tennessee. Instead, they just finished their third game in as many days and finished in 3rd place at the Bad Boys Motors Classic Crossover, in Sioux Falls, SD, by defeating the Memphis Tigers 70-59.
The Rams lone loss in the tournament was to the tournament champions, West Virginia Mountaineers. While Bones Hyland was named to the All-Tournament team, averaging 16 points per game.
Havoc forced another 19 turnovers on Memphis and blocked another 5 shots. The Rams have now forced 58 turnovers in three games. Defense led to offense as the Rams scored off transition throughout the night. Vince Williams came off the bench to lead VCU in scoring with 15 points. While Hyland added 12 points, all in the second half. VCU used a 10-0 run during the second half to pull 'safely' ahead from Memphis. A lead they never relinquished.
Neither team shot effectively from the field as the Rams only hit 44% of their shots, but held Memphis to making just 35% of their attempts. The Rams did make another seven 3-pointers, led by Williams’ three.
Pure freshman point guard, Ace Baldwin dished out another 6 assists, giving him 19 for the tournament. One of which was creatively went around the Tigers’ defender to give Hassan Ward an easy dunk. Ward and Corey Douglas each added two more blocks, giving the duo a combined 12 blocks for the three game tournament.
The Rams next match scheduled is on December 2nd at Penn State before their home opener at the Siegel Center on December 5th when they host Mount St. Mary’s.
