Three Main Takeaways:
Coastal Carolina Press Conference August 30, 2021 1 – DISCIPLINE A core value of the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers is their own internal discipline. A trait the Chanticleers will need to fully embrace on Thursday evening as the Triple Option attack of The Citadel comes to town. For the stats lovers out there, a great way to measure discipline from the game is by the following: - Penalties - 3rd Down Defense - Missed Tackles/Assignments - Biting on a Play Action Pass Those factors all are directly tied to discipline. 2 – BIG SHOES TO FILL Taron Jackson and C.J. Marable are now gone. Needless-to-say they have big shoes to fill. Braylon Ryan will start at Defensive End. Coach Chadwell said, “His consistency throughout camp is why he will start. You ask yourself are your players performing to their levels everyday and he has done that.” Expect Georgia Tech transfer Manny Johnson to receive some playing time, as well. On the flip side of the ball, Reese White and Shamari Jones will be the featured A and B backs. Each contributed heavily to the offense in 2020. Coastal rotates their RBs so look for Braydon Bennett and Isaiah Connelly to earn some touches, as well. “They both have had a good fall. They’re both still young and have some mistakes to clean up, but from a talent standpoint, they can run football and are dynamic in their own way,” added Chadwell. 3 – KEYS TO VICTORY It comes down to two main factors that will help determine the winner in Thursday night’s season kickoff: Physical Toughness and Discipline. With the Triple Option attack the Chanticleers Defensive Line not only needs to win the line but stay disciplines on the reads, gives and pitches. Knowing the play calling will be something like: run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, play action deep ball, run, run, run, run, run; the Linebackers and Corners will need to maintain their discipline, as well, and not bite and then get bit on a deep ball. Winning the offensive line is a key in every game, but especially when you play a school like The Citadel or a military academy where they could possess the ball the majority of a quarter for one drive. |
